old tyme

written 7/17/09

black dye
streaked above one eye
pigeon feather sticks
from a mohawk as she picks
the banjo strings
and around her they sing
the bopping and bumping
the croaking and thumping
beats fast and her feet
pump air into pleats
in the dirty streets
